BLOWOUT (turntable anihilists)
Blowout!
I got this name from a close friend who’s name is Erickson A.K.A CHRUE. I always had a lot of hair which was typically called a “blowout” back then, so hence the name “Blowout”. Over the years it became more than a hairstyle description cause in the actual definition, the synonyms used to describe blowout are burst, blast, explosion etc.....This is also synonymous with my attitude towards the arts. On stage or performing in general, I am a whole different burst of energy. Normally, I am really laid back, quiet and observant.
I have been into music from a young age with it always being in the household. My mother loves to listen and dance to music and my father played several instruments as well as sang. My older sister Burnisha was basically the one to put me on with hip hop in the early 80‘s and we grew up with it since it (hip hop) was fairly young at the time. Being latino in a “mixed”, brooklyn neighborhood was a blessing cause I didn’t experience much color boundaries as far as making friends and it helped me to appreciate different cultures. On Ocean ave., we had all types of people and a lot of us had music in common.
My brother from another mother DP One had found DJing in his early teen years and I started experimenting with the rhyme writing. We shared our skills and what we learned and began to take the turntables serious. I would go to DPs crib and my boy Danny (DJ Vandal)’s crib to learn and be inspired. Its bugged out, cause I always know when I will be good at doing something from the way I feel about it and appreciate it. Started with the rhymes and scratching to production and full length albums.
The way I got by in life, as far as money goes, is the trade I developed at home which is barbering. My mom used to cut my hair when I was young and showed me subconsciously that is was possible. So once again I liked the art and I wanted to be good at it. My boy Fris was cutting on the next block over and was inspiring as well cause he already had a couple of years on me. He hooked me up to work at my first barber shop where I zeeked a few cats! Now I am friggin nice!
I feel its a blessing to be able to do what I do and make money to live, because I build with all types of people, learn so many things, gain secondhand experience with things that should be in movies, and grow wise through all their mistakes and achievements along with my own. I was always the “old”, young dude, I guess cause I absorbed so much living through so many pairs of eyes..........
